Finley's Landing Park Sherrill IA 5.26.17

Once again, Kathy knew what she was doing when she booked our campsites at Finley's Landing in eastern Iowa. She and Jeff had been there one time before, and thought we'd like it as well. She was right!

We had two adjacent spots that were perfect for setting up our Tiny Trailerville again! Their Scamp is hiding behind the dome, and the T@b is turned sideways for more privacy. We got in on Friday and got everything set up, then Kathy and I went for a walk to see the Mighty Mississippi!

Isn't this a nice spot? The beach was lovely except for the JERKS WHO PARTIED AND LEFT THEIR TRASH THERE!

It was really a calm, serene view, and we visited a few times over the weekend.

Andy and I had been wanting to share a few of our favorite Wisconsin spots with Jeff and Kathy, knowing they'd really enjoy them, so Saturday, we took a day trip to Monroe and visited Minhas Distillery, Brewery, AND Winery (AKA, the Trifecta) and Baumgartner's Cheese Store and Tavern.

If you've never been to Minhas, we highly suggest it. This is a pic from inside the distillery where we purchased 4 "tastings" each, and the kind bartenders mixed up tasty drinks with the spirits they make. After two tastings each, we took a break to go eat lunch.

Mud Puppy PORTER! (Like their doggo...)

You may be thinking, "Wow. They went to a deli/bar. Whoopee." You would be correct, but you would be understating the amazingness of Baumgartner's. Service is always fantastic, the beer menu features lots and lots of big names as well as a bountiful amount of Wisconsin's best brews, like Minhas and New Glarus. The food, oh the food! The menu is simple, pick a bread, pick a cheese, maybe a meat, tell 'em if you want it hot or cold, and bam! Sandwich heaven. On the table are multiple varieties of delicious mustard. (I said delicious, and considering I really don't even like mustard, this says so much!) They even had gluten-free options for Kathy, which we rank as awesome!

So, we ate giant bricks of cheese served between squishy slices of rye, pumpernickel, and gluten-free, then went back to Minhas to finish our sampling!

This group selfie is one of my favorites! Me, taking the pic (of course), Andy giving Jeff bunny ears, Jeff turned backwards, and Kathy standing on tippy toes to make herself seen. It's absolutely perfect in every way!

After finishing at the distillery, we hit both the brewery and winery, and discovered that by "doing the Minhas Trifecta," we qualified for a cheap t shirt! We all bought one cuz goals. 😊

While we were on this great road trip, it rained back at the campground. This was concerning because eastern Iowa had already had a lot of rain, and the river was fairly high. When we got back, we saw that the campsites across from ours had flooded, and campers had to be moved and squoze into our existing spots. We happily helped accommodate and offered our firepit and the area around it to fellow campers to use as we were grouping around Jeff and Kathy's.

We were lucky enough to have one more day at our campsites, so we spent Sunday doing things we normally do! Take a look!

Enjoying campfires.

Andy trying a Klingon brew I picked up at a local liquor store. (Because we aren't yet big enough nerds!) It was really good, btw!

I think Andy and Jeff are holding hands? Well...I don't like to question it. They look happy!

Kathy and I splurged on an "expensive" bottle of wine to enjoy. It was also quite good, so we just went ahead and finished that...

Finished up the day with a nice fire!

Before leaving on Monday, Kathy and I went for one last walk, and decided not to go on this trail as we would need a kayak or a canoe! The river was SO HIGH, the entire trail was under water!

That wraps up yet another T@b adventure for us. Due to commitments at home, it was going to be WEEKS before we got to camp again! I don't know how we made it through, but we managed.

Happy camping!
Peggy
